Care and Preventative Maintenance
As a rule, pneumatics are extremely reliable. They have been used for decades to control production machinery in less than ideal environments. As with anything that is mechanically driven there will be wear, binding and leaks as a result of constant movement. The following is a list of components that may require attention and what you can do to prevent them from failing or reduce the chances.
Cylinders
The cylinders have an expected life cycle of 3000 linear miles. Each cylinder travels 1.5 inches per cycle. This equates to a very long life. These particular cylinders do not require lubrication and should not be lubricated. However, it is strongly recommended that a moisture separator be used in-line with the air supply. We offer this device on our products page. Cylinders can be purchased online but it is doubtful that you will ever have to replace them.
Regulators
There are (2) regulators on the machine. One of the regulators is pre-set to 55 psi and should not be adjusted by anyone. The second regulator is controlled by the operator and can be adjusted from 0-40 psi. We do not recommend exceeding 40 psi on a stretch or it will slip. Avoid increasing the stretching force above 40 psi to prolong the life of all moving parts. This item is available online.
Rubber Grip & Angle Bar
Over time your grip and angle bar may accumulate dirt and even build-up layers of lamination that can rub off the canvas. This film may reduce the gripping force over time but it is easily removed with a degreaser. Airborne dirt and oil from adjacent machinery may also accumulate on the angle bar and cause it to slip. We sell both of these items online.
Toggle Switch
This device is mechanical and with any moving part there is wear that causes metal fatigue, binding and breakage. The “O” rings may also fail and this would require replacement. Keeping the moisture from accumulating in the lines is critical. We sell this part online.
